Rutland Historic Churches Preservation Trust
Providing a financial helping hand to places of worship in the county of Rutland since 1954.
Welcome to the home of the Rutland Historic Churches Preservation Trust. The Trust was set up in 1954 to provide a financial helping hand to places of worship in the county of Rutland.
Churches are not only places of worship, they are often the centre of community life, especially in a rural county. Furthermore, many of Rutland’s churches have architectural or historical significance, attracting visitors to the area.
Preserving historic buildings is costly and this is where the Trust can help.

How the Trust can help your church or chapel
The Trust exists to help preserve Rutland’s churches and chapels for the present and the future.
We provide a Grants scheme to help with the cost of repair or restoration. The scheme is open to every church or chapel in Rutland, of any denomination, which is open for public worship.
Grants range from a few hundred pounds to a few thousand pounds.
Our Trustees also provide valuable advice and support to churches undertaking projects.

How you can help Rutland's historic churches
The Trust’s ability to help Rutland's churches depends on public support. This comes mainly in the form of donations by individuals or churches, legacies and fundraising.
Our major fundraising event is Ride and Stride held every two years

Rutland Ride and Stride
A major fundraising event held every two years in which participants challenge themselves to visit as many churches as they can in one day by their chosen mode of transport and raise money to support the work of the Rutland Historic Churches Preservation Trust.
Most participants walk or cycle but we love it when people take on a quirkier personal challenge. On horseback, unicycles, penny farthings, or anything else that is safe and legal! See Rutland’s beautiful churches, have fun and raise money. A great day out.
We strongly encourage participants to register online.

Rutland's churches
Rutland is home to 64 churches and chapels and you will find a comprehensive list of every church with links to more information about each one.
To give you an idea about the work of the Trust, there is information about individual projects supported by our grants scheme.
We’ve also provided GPS coordinates for all of the churches and provided files to download for your devices.
